On March 13, 2014, Fegely Middle School dance camp participants entertained a packed house, during half time of the 8th grade girl’s basketball game. 54 girls participated in the dance camp, which was held after school 2 days a week for 8 weeks. Participation in the dance camp was so large that students were broken up into two groups to learn two, different, dance routines. While a handful of students who participated in the dance camp have had dance experience, others had no training at all before deciding to participate.
This dance camp was open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student who was interested in learning basic dance skills and improving their health, flexibility, and fitness.
While some new 6th graders to the camp such as: Amber Saldivar and Brooke Peters were incredibly nervous at the thought of dancing in front of a large crowd, some other students like 7th graders: Marissa Hurst and Rebecca Rosado, who participated last year, were not as nervous to perform. Eighth graders: Jamie Valadez, Brianna Adams, Leilani Ruiz, and Abby Waugh all expressed how saddened they were that this was the last year they were going to be able to participate. The dancers are coached by 6th grade, Math teachers: Lisa Fralinger and Kristin Szymczak. Coach Szymczak and Fralinger were extremely proud of the dedication and hard work all of the dancers put in this year.
