Indiana University Northwest women’s soccer student-athletes Isabel Escalera and Xiomara Santana were voted CCAC Offense and Defense Players of the Week by the league communications directors Tuesday.
The RedHawks began the season 2-0-0 for the first time in program history by defeating Lawrence Tech and Michigan-Dearborn last week.
In those victories, Escalera picked up both wins earned her first shutout of 2024, and made eight saves in nine chances. For the Waukegan, Ill., native it was her seventh career shutout in three seasons with the RedHawks.
Santana, meanwhile, earned the offensive honor after scoring the only goal in the win over Michigan-Dearborn. The freshman from Hammond, Ind., netted her first career goal in the 72nd minute, and closed the weekend with three shots in 113 minutes of action.
This is the third time Escalera has earned CCAC Defensive Player of the Week, and first time IUN has taken both conference weekly honors.
