Duneland Chamber Honors Community Members, Discusses Improvements

The Duneland Chamber's State of the Chamber & Community Awards luncheon was held on Wednesday, July 17th, to honor those who work hard to make our community a better place. Along with the award ceremony, the communities of Beverly Shores, Burns Harbor, and Chesterton also addressed some major improvements being made in their communities today.

Laura Layman, Vice President of the Duneland Business Initiative Group and winner of the award said, "This award is wonderful, we have been working hard for about 6 years now doing events and just trying to make Chesterton the place to be, not only for the community and the residents, but also the visitors. We want to bring in the visitors and draw business. This award is just a nice thank you to us and it means the world.”

"This is one of my favorite events! Being part of the Duneland Chamber give us a chance to be involved in something bigger than ourselves. So many people work to make our community great and today we get to honor that. It’s always great to hear what is going on in the communities and we appreciate the support of everyone who helps to make this community great,” said Heather Ennis, Duneland Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

Bud Flick, one of the winners of the Humanitarian of the Year awards, works with the Red Cross as part of the disaster response team. Not only does he help the Red Cross locally, but he has responded to 10 national disasters and spends 236 days away from home serving the citizen of our country and aiding victims of natural disasters all over the nation.

Bud said, "I'm stunned! All I can say is I've enjoyed everything I've done with Red Cross, it just a wonderful organization to help and meet people. I am so thankful for this award.”

The community we live in is truly a wonderful place to be and we are so thankful to have such strong, innovative, and caring community leaders who are a continuously working to make our towns a better place to be.
