Downtown LaPorte and United Way of LaPorte County Host Community Clean Up Day on National Make A Difference Day

Make-a-Difference-DayThe community and local organizations are coming together in LaPorte on National Make A Difference Day, October 27, 2012 for a Downtown Community Clean Up. The event will start at 8am with a volunteer meet-up breakfast; clean-up activities will begin at 9a.m. Volunteers will be notified in advance of their site number and may register online by visiting http://daytabank.handsonnetwork.org/.

Any volunteers under the age of 18 will need signed permission from their parent or guardian. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own materials and both skilled and unskilled are welcome to participate.

For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine and Points of Light have joined together to sponsor Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Millions of volunteers around the world will unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others on October 27, 2012. LaPorte citizens can help be a part of the change and come together to improve the downtown.

The Community Clean Up Day is still in need of projects and volunteers. Individual projects, whether you own a building or live in proximity to the immediate downtown area, can be submitted by contacting Tiffany Bley at the Greater LaPorte Chamber of Commerce at (219) 362-3178.

The Downtown Community Clean Up is sponsored by the United Way of LaPorte County, and will serve as a warm up to the United Way and Sullair Bowl –A-Thon from 2-5p.m. at Casey’s Lanes, 610 Colfax St in LaPorte. Highlights will include special games with prizes, and giveaways – all proceeds will benefit the United Way of LaPorte County. Register to bowl with your $50 donation at http://www.unitedwaylpc.org/.
