The South Shore has always been a region of opportunity. But as we look toward the future, it’s clear we can no longer afford to do things the way they've always been done. Today, we stand at a critical moment—one that calls for fresh thinking, bold ideas, and a renewed commitment to the people who live here.
At the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, we’re not just promoting a destination—we’re shaping a vision. And at the heart of that vision is a simple but powerful idea: if we build communities where people want to live, we’ll build places people want to visit.
Our world is evolving rapidly, and we need to evolve with it. That means rethinking tourism. Rethinking development. And most importantly, rethinking how we engage with and support the people of Lake County and Northwest Indiana.
This is why we’re putting residents first. Tourism shouldn’t be something that happens to our communities—it should be something that benefits and involves them. By aligning our goals with the aspirations of our residents, we create destinations that are not only more authentic, but more sustainable for the long term.
We're calling on municipalities, local businesses, and entrepreneurs to join us in this effort. Let's bring forward ideas that not only attract visitors but also improve the quality of life for those who call this place home. Together, we can create experiences that are unique, inclusive, and reflective of who we are.
To get us there, we’re launching a number of strategic initiatives:
- Strengthening Community Engagement by encouraging residents to stay connected through our weekly events email at alongthesouthshore.com/signup.
- Expanding Sports Tourism, continuing to bring in dynamic sporting events and improving local venues to stimulate economic growth.
- Revitalizing the Indiana Welcome Center with visual updates and increased programming to better represent our region.
- Amplifying Our Marketing Efforts to keep the South Shore top-of-mind for travelers seeking their next Midwest getaway.
- Exploring the Possibility of a New Convention Center, which would position us to attract larger events and conferences.
- Partnering with Regional Organizations to align our efforts, from economic development to infrastructure planning, in a truly collaborative way.
- Diversifying Our Tourism Offerings, including cultural trails, heritage experiences, and destination development that invites deeper exploration of our communities.
This isn’t just about economic development—though that’s a critical piece. It’s about creating a region that’s magnetic to young professionals, welcoming to families, and full of opportunity for all. We want our youth to see a future here, our businesses to thrive, and our visitors to feel like they’ve found a hidden gem.
I believe in what the South Shore can become. And I believe that with the right vision, partnerships, and energy, we can make it a place that stands out—not just in Indiana, but across the country.
Let’s build something remarkable, together.
If you’d like to be part of the momentum, reach out to our team or connect with us online. This is your region, your future—and we’re just getting started.
