Dermody names Tom Casey new La Porte City Planner

Mayor Tom Dermody has announced the selection of Tom Casey to lead the Planning Department in the City of La Porte. Casey has most recently served as Vice President of Space Center, Inc. a privately-held commercial real estate company with over 17 million square feet of office and industrial properties throughout the country. Casey was responsible for the acquisition, development and management of a portfolio of over 3 million square feet in the Midwest Region.

"I could not be more pleased to have been able to land such a high-quality leader as Tom Casey, to help drive our community forward. I know Tom was highly sought after by other communities and private sector employers but in the end, he wanted to be part of the wonderful changes going on in La Porte," said Mayor Dermody.

Casey is a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. He is a member of the NAIOP, Industrial Asset Management Council and a former president of the Downers Grove Historical Society. Casey led Space Center's acquisition of the former Whirlpool Facility in La Porte and subsequent expansion of the 137-acre Thomas Rose Industrial Park. As long-term owner of the properties, Casey has extensive experience in the La Porte Market and will make an easy transition into this role. "I know La Porte well. This community has been very good to me over the years and I am excited to be able to give something back. I love the direction in which Mayor Dermody is leading the city and will do everything I can to make sure La Pore is successful long into the future," said Casey.

Tom Casey's family consists of his wife Jill, son Finn (22) and daughter Gertie (21). Casey will begin work on March 10th and can be reached at (219) 362-8260 or tcasey@cityoflaportein.gov
