Currie Motors Ford of Valpo’s reputation for quality service is built on the backs of its all-star team of employees. From the technicians in the service department, to the salesmen on the showroom floor, they all play a part in delivering customers the best experience possible. One of those salesmen is Mike Davis, finance manager for the dealership.
Davis joined the team at Currie Motors Ford of Valpo five years ago. He had just finished college and was bartending while he hunted for a long-term position. A friend of his worked in the car business and suggested Davis look into the field as well. Currie Motors Ford of Valpo happened to have an open position at the time, so Davis sent in an application and got tabbed for an interview.
“I’d actually had a couple of other interviews scheduled that day, but I really hit it off with the guys here,” Davis said. “The first thing I noticed when I walked in was their energy, everyone is always in a good mood, hyped up, and ready to go.”
He started the very next week and worked through Ford Motor’s training process and Currie Motors Ford of Valpo’s own 10-step sales course. Davis learned all there is to know about Ford’s vehicles, and most importantly, how to walk a customer through their car buying experience and find the perfect fit for their needs.
“Communication is so important, you have to figure out what their needs and wants are,” Davis said. “You’ve just got to be personable. We tell our people all the time – make a friend. Someone’s going to give you a chance if they like you, if they don’t, they’re just not going to want to talk to you.”
One thing that makes Davis’ job easier is his faith in Ford and its constant success in developing vehicles that adapt to customer’s needs.
“Ford’s always coming out with new vehicles and doing focus groups where they hear exactly what people want,” Davis said. “The great thing is, they actually listen to us. I feel like that’s not something you get as much with other brands. They take that feedback and give us awesome new features.”
As a finance manager, Davis’ role stretches beyond the car itself – he works to ensure that customers can purchase their vehicles through a financial solution that best fits their individual circumstances.
“I’m able to help out people that might not be in that fortunate of a situation,” he said. “With their vehicles, they can go out and further their life and careers because they’ve gotten more reliable transportation.”
Davis is a big baseball fan. In his off time, he and his fiancée love to take trips out to Chicago’s ballparks.
“I’m a White Sox fan, she’s a Cubs fan, so I do go to both parks,” Davis said. “I’ll wear Cubs colors, but I won’t wear a jersey – she does the same for me. If it’s Chicago versus Chicago, I’m rooting for the White Sox, but if it’s Chicago versus anyone else, I’m rooting for Chicago.”
