Currie Motors Ford of Valpo Employee Spotlight: Cary Green

Currie Motors Ford of Valpo made it a goal to build a sales team where the focus is not always on selling a car, but helping customers make the right decisions. Cary Green, a Sales Consultant, explained what his customer philosophy is all about.

“I want our customers to be happy, not just with a vehicle but with me,” he said. “It’s all about earning trust. You can meet a customer and spend three to ten hours with them and not make a sale, but we can build on that first interaction and find a car that fits.”

Green first started at Currie Motors last November. Though he had experience with sales in other fields, it was his first time selling cars. As a lifelong F-150 owner, Ford of Valpo felt like a natural fit.

“When it comes to sales, I only wanted to work at a place where I already like and believe in the product,” Green said. “That was the case here. It’s easier for me to convey that excitement and value to other people because I’m actually a customer myself.”

He has an English and Philosophy degree from Purdue University, which helped him build communication skills and shaped how he builds a plan to help his customers.

“It’s all about getting to know them, every customer has different needs,” Green said. “You try and get the most information without having to ask a ton of questions at first. You take the broad strokes at first and then fine tune things, it’s kind of like a painting. You make the big picture first and then fill in the details.”

Growing up in the Region with business owner parents was another big factor that Green feels helps him relate to his customers.

“I grew up with a business mindset, my mother was vet. I did everything from cleaning up after dogs and cats all the way up to helping run the business,” he said. “And my grandparents, who were farmers, also helped raise me with old-fashioned values though I’m only 33. I can kind of relate with all different kinds of customers.”

With Valpo being an urban center surrounded by plenty of rural communities, customers come in looking to meet all kinds of needs and that is his favorite part of the job.

“I love being able to help people, and every customer is different,” Green said. “It’s exciting to meet new people, see what kinds of needs they have, and then find the perfect fit.”
