Cub Scout Pack 456 Police Visit and Science Fair Project

Cdaverunfast-2011-01-24_20:13:54-100_4436On January 21st Cub Scout Pack 456 held our monthly Pack meeting. Before the pack meeting we enjoyed a visit to the Portage Police Department. Officer Hughes gave us a nice presentation and tour of the whole department. Afterwards we made our way back to Jones Elementary School for our pack meeting. What made this meeting so special was that each Den presented Science Fair Projects for the pack. Our youngest boys in the Tiger Den bent light and made a rainbow by making a Prism using an empty 2 liter bottle filled with water, a white piece of paper and a fine toothed comb. Our Wolves Presented a skit representing Matter and made a Liquid that was also a solid by mixing water with cornstarch. The Bear Den made an erupting volcano out of newspaper that erupted when Mentos were dropped into a bottle of orange and red pop. Our eldest boys in the Webelos Den made a vacuum by sticking lit candles in hard-boiled eggs and placing them against the mouth of the bottles. The candles burned the air and created a vacuum which sucked the egg right into the bottle. All the Scouts did such a wonderful job that according to Assistant Scout Leader Robert Shultz, "We would like to make this an annual event." We hold our Pack Meetings on the 3rd Friday of the month at Jones Elementary school at 6:30pm. For information about joining Scouts Please Call Christina Sanner at (219) 649-1456. We would like to extend a very special Thank You to Officer Hughes and the Portage Police Department.
