Community Healthcare System previews new Stroke and Rehabilitation Center

Over the past few months, members of the Crown Point community and surrounding areas have eagerly awaited the opening of the Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center. Located off of Broadway in Crown Point, this 129,000 square foot facility is set to offer advanced stroke and rehabilitation care to Northwest Indiana, and an array of family medical services to area residents.

Community Healthcare System hosted a VIP Open House where guests could see sneak preview the brand-new building. Community dignitaries were excited to watch the ribbon cutting while taking a personal tour of the facility guided by hospital staff.

The mission of Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center is apparent in the design of the hospital, reflecting the resounding commitment to provide excellence in inpatient rehabilitation. Craig Bolda, Administrator of Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center, spoke about the vision behind the new specialty facility.

“Our vision here is to create the best patient experience by listening, connecting and treating everyone like family,” he said. “They will receive top care from a team of doctors and other professionals who are engaged in their care.”

The top two floors of the hospital are dedicated to intensive rehabilitation for post-stroke patients as well as those recovering from neurological conditions, joint replacements or other conditions requiring a rehabilitative setting. The inpatient hospital rooms are larger than most, with pull-out beds made specifically for visiting family members. There are 40 spacious rooms for inpatient treatment and space for rehabilitation services.

“Working with rehabilitation patients is a positive experience,” said Katie Zromkowki, occupational therapist at the new hospital. “I get to help them get better and continue their lives, and there isn’t a better feeling.”

The first two floors of the facility house an array of outpatient services for the whole family. Available to the public beginning in October, the first floor contains an Immediate Care Center; outpatient therapy services including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy; diagnostic testing; clinical laboratory and physician practices including cardiology and orthopedics. The second floor offers a women’s  care center and family medicine, internal medicine, neurology and urology physician practices.

Community Healthcare System is a leading provider of healthcare in Northwest Indiana with flagship locations in Munster, East Chicago and Hobart. The new hospital in Crown Point has locals excited about having a leading healthcare provider so close to home.

“It means so much to our community,” said Crown Point Mayor David Uran. “Having healthcare for our residents and the entire region in our backyard...it’s a homerun, no doubt about it.”

Outside, the Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center offers the Valori Kolarczyk Healing Garden, a memorial garden dedicated to the life of Valori Kolarczyk. The garden is a special place where patients can relax and enjoy nature while they heal. The garden will also host yoga and other health classes for patients, promoting healthy habits in a tranquil location.

Community Healthcare System is hosting the official public open house from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Sept. 21, where visitors can tour a portion of the new 40- bed inpatient rehabilitation specialty hospital complete with living skills space and therapy gyms. From that point, members of the community will see the new diagnostic testing and lab, immediate care, therapy services and the Valori Kolarczyk Healing Garden. While there, visitors can get an autograph from Chicago Blackhawks 3 - time Stanley Cup Champion Patrick Sharp from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., a chance to win fabulous prizes and music from 97.1 The Drive’s Phil Manicki during the event.
