Comcast offers fast, reliable telecommunications services to and invests in communities across Northwest Indiana

In a world that’s becoming more and more dependent on technology, it’s important to have access to reliable, state-of-the-art telecommunications services.

“Comcast provides its state-of-the-art Xfinity Internet, TV, Mobile, Voice (home phone) and Home (security and home automation) services to residential customers in more than 80 Northwest and Northern Indiana communities,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s regional senior vice president.

Comcast’s network infrastructure allows the company to deliver some of the fastest Internet speeds on the market to both residential and business customers in the Region.

“Comcast delivers Internet download speeds up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to homes and businesses via its more than 10,000 miles of fiber-rich network across the Region,” Crowley said. “Comcast Business can deliver speeds up to 100 Gbps to businesses in the Region as well.”

In fact, over the last five years, the company has been proactively expanding its network across the Region to bring speeds up to 100 Gbps and other advanced telecommunications services to Northern and Northwest Indiana business and industrial corridors in Hammond, Middlebury, Portage, Schererville, Wakarusa, Warsaw and other locations.

Comcast also values helping the communities it serves. To that end, Comcast has been working for over a decade to close the digital divide by offering low-cost Internet service to low-income households.

“Internet Essentials is a low-cost, residential broadband Internet service for eligible low-income families, seniors, veterans, college students, people with disabilities and others enrolled in public assistance programs, ranging from Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to the federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and housing assistance programs,” Crowley said. Crowley pointed out that Comcast has helped more than 440,000 Hoosiers gain access to the Internet at home since Internet Essentials launched in 2011.

In addition, Comcast has worked to help students and adults excel by establishing “Lift Zones” at nine Boys & Girls Clubs facilities in the area. Lift Zones are safe places with Wi-Fi access where people can build their digital skills, search for employment, and do schoolwork.

“Not only does Comcast provide state-of-the-art services to homes and businesses in the region, but we invest in our people and support the communities we serve as well,” Crowley said. “These are our core values, important elements of good corporate citizenship and additional reasons to choose Comcast as an employer, a business partner and a service provider.”

Crowley said over the past three years the company has invested $550 million in technology and infrastructure, and $4.4 million in cash and in-kind support to nonprofits throughout the state.

Crowley said Comcast is proud to serve Northwest and Northern Indiana and help drive economic development in the Region.

“Comcast is proud to serve the communities of Northwest and Northern Indiana. Not only do we serve hundreds of thousands of business and residential customers, employ hundreds of people, operate a number of facilities, invest in our network and support non-profits, we’re an economic engine. Connectivity and technology are crucial to the Region’s and the nation’s economy. The investments Comcast has made in Northwest and the rest of Northern Indiana will help drive the region’s economy into the future and position it to compete with regions around the corner and around the world.”

For more than 50 years, Comcast has been serving communities in Northwest Indiana and Northern Indiana. In total, the company has over 10,000 miles of reliable, accessible network infrastructure across Northern Indiana, including more than 2,200 miles of fiber and 150,000 Xfinity Wi-Fi Hotspots.

It also has 18 engineering, office, warehouse, technical operations facilities and Xfinity stores and employs 265 people across the Region.
