Comcast Donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana’s John Will Anderson Facility in Gary gives Kids more access to Technology to Build the Club Experience

COMCAST-Helps-Build-BGCNWI-Experience-2018Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and Councilwoman Mary Brown joined Comcast to announce to announce a $10,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana’s John Will Anderson Club in Gary. The funds were used to purchase twelve Chromebooks for the Club’s Learning Center and STEM Lab. The donation is part of a larger effort Comcast is making in locations across the country to support My.Future, an interactive online Boys & Girls Clubs of America platform kids can use to learn, play and socialize, as well as interact with one another – using likes, follows and shares – and showcase their work.

“Comcast has been a strong partner of Boys & Girls Clubs for a long time,” states Ryan Smiley, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. “Their commitment to keep providing our organization, and our different Club, with more access to technology is helping us to further build the academic success of our kids. The twelve Chromebooks our John Will Anderson Club received through this funding is not only allowing our kids to receive a Club Experience through the online program My.Future, but the Chromebooks also are used for Club members to finish their homework, and to utilize in our STEM Lab.”

“Our Club members in Gary often come from circumstances that are challenging,” states Rosemarie Joiner, club director of the John Will Anderson Club. “Anytime a company, like Comcast, provides technology resources to our kids, it helps us to open new windows of learning opportunities for our youth, opportunities that will only build them into successful leaders. For this, we are more than thankful,” Rosemarie states further.

“Comcast is proud to continue to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. We applaud their efforts in giving youth a safe, after-school environment. Comcast knows that children are hungry for new learning opportunities, and we are proud to provide Club members and their families access to technology that will help them develop the skills they need to succeed in today’s digital world.” said Jason Lunderman, government affairs manager for the greater Chicago region.
