City of Whiting Plans to Grow Connections with Residents of The Region in 2016

MayorJoe-1Whether it’s on the web or the waves of radio, Whiting is upping its game when it comes to keeping you informed on what’s happening in the Little City by the Lake.

It’s all part of the city’s commitment to keeping its residents informed and visitors tuned into “All Things Whiting” in 2016.

For starters, the city has launched a new radio program on Purdue Calumet's WJOB 1230 with Mayor Joe Stahura to help keep Regionites in the know when it comes to city developments and major events happening.

The “Morning Show with Mayor Joe,” as some call it, airs Thursdays from 8:30-9:00 a.m. on WJOB and encourages those interested in Whiting to call in and get involved in the goings-on of the community.

“We really do want people to call in and take part in the conversation,” Whiting’s Director of Communications, Amy Baran, told IIMM. “It’s fun to talk to the residents and tell Whiting’s story.”

In addition to Whiting news and info, Baran says the show is also a great opportunity for listeners to listen to local businesses share their stories and learn more about the history of the town from special guests, including City Director, Mark Harbin.

“Mark is the unofficial Historian of Whiting,” added Baran. “But even then, when we are talking to local businesses there’s still a lot about the history of Whiting that even he is learning when we’re on air.”

But on top of getting the Whiting Word out on the airwaves, the town is also making a significant stride in making sure its citizens are informed of news and events on their Facebook page and website.

“We have a lot of people here that are very interested in what is happening in Whiting,” said Baran. “Mayor Joe is very confident in the job he is doing and we want to make sure that we are opening our forms of communication to let people know why we are doing one thing or the other.”

So if you’re on the lookout for all the wacky and wonderful happenings in Whiting this year, give their Facebook a follow and the be the first to know the lowdown in the city down by the lake.
