City of Hobart Golf Cart Parade kicks off Halloween weekend festivities

Ghouls and goblins invaded Hobart streets a day early as the city kicked off a Halloween Party on Saturday afternoon.

The party began with the second annual Hobart Golf Cart Parade that ended in Festival Park where a costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, crafts, and games were held. Trick or treaters were also encouraged to visit the Hobart businesses in the park.

City of Hobart, Hobart Events, and Hobart Parks &Recreation sponsored the parade and the party. The decorated carts that were fun and spooky traveled from Jerry Pavese Park through the downtown area to Festival Park.

Leah, Lindsay, and Mason Goad decorated their grandma’s cart with a Monsters, Inc. theme. This is the second year the family has been a part of the parade.

“We had a costume like Roz, so we decided to do that and it worked out well,” Leah Goad said.

The three agreed that it was fun traveling through the parade, seeing the community members who gathered to celebrate the fun along the way.

Jim and Patty Goad, who were in a separate cart from Leah, Lindsay, and Mason Goad, were part of the parade because their grandkids asked them to be. The couple agreed and attended on Saturday dressed as an old couple with masks.

“We went through our boxes at home, and we worked with what we had,” Patty Goad said.

Golf carts are allowed in the city, and during the summer those carts are seen traveling to the summer market on Thursday evenings. Colin and Kelly McDonald were regulars at the summer market events and this is the second Halloween golf cart parade they have been a part of in Hobart.

The couple shared how, similar to today’s parade, the summer market events were a great way to get involved and find local entertainment.

“We wanted to get back to our community which we love and are proud of,” said Kelly McDonald. “It makes for the perfect date night and it’s something really fun to do.”

The couple didn’t want their cart to be scary, so instead they decorated their cart with bright, neon colors. Last year, the cart was a rainbow unicorn that was covered in balloons.
