CHS Students Participate in Broadcasting Competition

CHS-IASB-2012Chesterton High School participated in the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters’ High School Broadcasting Competition and Conference at the radio and television studios of the University of Indianapolis on Monday, March 13. Students who are not involved in the live events attend a variety of workshops dealing with all aspects of radio and TV broadcasting conducted by people working in the communications business and teachers with schools that are members of IASB.

Entries in some categories were recorded and judged in advance, but the finals in key TV and radio categories were conducted live at the University of Indianapolis. The radio finals were broadcast live on radio station WICR-FM/HD/HD2. The station’s general manager, Scott Uecker, is the executive director of the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters.

Jackie Santos (11), WDSO music director at CHS's radio station received first place in Radio Copywriting. This category was judged in advance of the conference. Students were given facts to use in order to make a radio script. First place winners received a plaque in the shape of the state of Indiana.

Martinson had to submit a CD containing a newscast and was chosen to be one of the finalists. He participated in the radio finals that were broadcast live on the UIndy radio station and received a certificate.

CHS Advanced Video senior students Hunter Huddleston, Jake Deiotte and Jordan Fine placed second in the Video Open/Close category.
