Since October 2 of 1950, Winamac Old Auto Club has united car collectors, avid auto fans, car dealerships, and more. On Saturday, October 5 – just days after it celebrated its 74th anniversary – Winamac Old Auto Club held its Team Chevy Show at 1856 W. US30, Valparaiso, Ind. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in collaboration with Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso.
"This has been amazing. I've been in the club 29 years, and it has given me a much better life because I have so much fun and meet such wonderful people. We also get to collaborate with wonderful places like Team Chevrolet that invite us over, so we can celebrate our anniversary here," said President of the Winamac Old Auto Club Glen Ewen.
With a diverse mix of car models and car companies ranging from old classics like the 1959 Chevrolet Corvette and the Ford Model T to modern favorites like the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class and 2017 Ford Mustang GT, Winamac Old Auto Club brings something for everyone to every car show.
"The Internet is a great tool to bring people in. I have all the email addresses on my computer, and I have all the phone numbers of the activity directors and all the nursing homes. I got 1212, pages of addresses. It's really a lot of work. It takes me through the winter to complete it all," said Ewen
Winamac Auto Club and Team Chevrolet Valparaiso have cultivated a strong partnership over the years. Every year, both groups are proud to bring the spring Team Chevy Show and fall Team Chevy Show to life and make each show better than the last.
"It just gets better every year. Dave Brubaker, the manager, is wonderful. We look forward to this. This year, we actually came in May, and we're back again, and hopefully, next year we will come a couple of times. Boy, you can just look around and see all the smiling faces," said Ewen.
The Team Chevy Show brought with it not only a variety of stellar cars from across the state but also opportunities to meet new people and continue to build a community of car enthusiasts.
"Well I just enjoy talking to people in general, and I really enjoy muscle cars and that kind of thing. I also love it when somebody likes my car. I've added a lot to it over the years, and it's fun to see people enjoying it. It is also nice to see the young people here and what car to cars they want," said Club Member of the Winamac Old Auto Club Rex Gilmal
