Chesterton Parties In Thomas Centennial Park

Summer is a great time for food, family, and fun! The Town of Chesterton believes that the best way to end it is with a community party in Thomas Centennial Park! The 5th Annual Party In The Park was held on Saturday, August 21st. Hundreds of people from the Duneland community showed up for a wonderful evening of music, food, games, and good company.

Nine local restaurants were involved in providing a potluck dinner for the attendees. After paying the $5 cover fee, a plate with silverware was given to each person as they walked in. They then were able to choose from plenty of wonderful food including Mexican, Italian, and our very own Philly cheese steak sandwiches. Third Coast Spice Cafe, El Salto, and Family Express were among some of the names that provided their delicious offerings. Friends and family enjoyed their potluck meal underneath a cool, summer evening. The meal was serenaded with music provided by a DJ in the pavilion.

Other non-profit organizations were there as well with booths to promote themselves. They also provided games and activities for the kids to enjoy after their meal. Multiple moon bounces sponsored by the Duneland Health and Wellness Institute were set up for kids to have a blast in together. Parents gathered and took photos of their kids having the time of their lives. The big hit of the night was face painting provided by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County and the Duneland Family YMCA. Hundreds of kids’ eyes lit up as the clowns of the YMCA were there to paint faces with a variety of different designs and drawings. The Boys and Girls club went with a calmer approach providing face paintings by volunteers in normal clothing. Both the organizations had a successful evening filled with smiles and laughter. A dunk tank was provided by the Chesterton Fire Department. Beanbag games were held with a beer garden available for the adults as well.

Anyone of any age had something fun to enjoy at Party In The Park. Tiffany Bley, a member of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, was satisfied to see the turn out and excited for the growth of years to come.
