Chesterton Brings the Party to the Park

The Duneland Chamber of Commerce held the 8th annual Party in the Park today from 5 to 9 at Thomas Centennial Park in downtown Chesterton. The celebration was held to kick-off the upcoming 2013-2014 school year.

This year several restaurants from the community came together to create a potluck of sorts. Every ticket holder was able to sample dishes from each restaurant. The dishes ranged from truffles to roasted chicken.

The food was great! We got everything from tamales to colored kettle corn on our plate,” Tom Q. of Chesterton said.

27 Entertainment was responsible for the night’s music including songs like Firework and Jessie’s Girl. James O'Connor Martial Arts and Fitness wowed people with their martial arts and Zumba demonstrations in front of the gazebo.

Several non-profits and chamber businesses including NeighborLink and Making Strides Against Cancer came together to provide activities like games, tourneys, and giveaways for families

"It was great to be able to get our organizations word out to the community in a fun way," board member of NeighborLink Beth Vlietstra said.

One of the favorites was the dunk tank provided by the Rotary Club. There were also several bounce houses, including slides, basketball hoops, moonwalks, and an obstacle course provided by Road to Life Church. Little girls were lined up to get their faces painted by several volunteers. TNT Gaming provided a small area for X-Box gaming. Needless to say, there was never a dull moment at the Party in the Park!
