Checkmate to Drugs

Members of the National Guard are visiting the Portage Boys & Girls Club throughout the summer as part of their Drug Demand Reduction Program. The Drug Demand Reduction Program was developed to help reduce the demand for illegal drugs through education as well as providing youth with the skills to make the right decisions in life. checkmate-drugs

Participating in the "Checkmate Drugs" session of the program which teaches members how to play chess are clockwise from upper left: Gavin Short, Justin Morris, Carlos Rivera, and Brionna Schultz. Checkmate sessions are held at the Portage Boys & Girls Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:00 pm.

The National Guard will also bring their Mobile Team Challenge portable low ropes course in which participants learn teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution to the Portage Boys & Girls Club the week of July 5.
