Have you ever wanted to compete in a magical competition? Students at Central Elementary School in Portage have the opportunity to join a Quidditch Club coached by two 4th grade teachers, JoAnn Ranfranz and Mallory Rzonca. If you aren’t familiar with Quidditch, it is a game played in the popular Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. The game has been adapted from the book for ‘ground play’ by students at Central.
The teams are compiled of 7 players each and the object of the game is to catch the golden snitch. The game continues in play until the golden snitch, played by a group of students who are Snitch Keepers, has been caught by the team Seekers. The Quidditch Club is in its third year at Central and each season it has grown in size. It is a great opportunity for the students from two grade levels to meet new friends, work on teamwork skills, get exercise, and release their extra energy after school. The students at Central are currently working on making shirts for their teams and competing for Central’s Quidditch World Cup Tournament.
