Center for Hospice Care Welcomes New Hospice Physician

Center for Hospice Care is proud to announce Dr. Matthew Misner as the organization’s new Hospice Physician. He is a new edition to Center for Hospice Care’s Medical team.

Dr. Matt Misner is a board-certified Pediatrician who is responsible for working with the staff and patients of Center for Hospice Care. He will be providing medical care to both pediatric and adult patients in the home and inpatient settings. In unification with the rest of the medical team, he will also be responsible for the education of fellows and residents that rotate through the organization.

Dr. Matt Misner completed a four-year National Health Service Corps scholarship while working with both the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma and the migrant Hispanic population in California, after receiving his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. Dr. Matt is also fervent to both learn about and to teach theology and bioethics. He has a master’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union and is currently finishing a master’s degree in Bioethics from the University of Mary. His pastoral degree is of great benefit when talking through end of life issues with both patients and their families. Dr. Misner has a strong passion to work with under-served populations in both domestic and international settings. He learned to speak Spanish while serving as a Catholic medical missionary with his family, in Arequipa Peru for two years. He has also lived and worked as a missionary in the Marshall Islands. He continues to seek out new international opportunities and is looking forward to assisting with the Center for Hospice Care’s Ugandan global partnership in the near future.

Dr. Matt has a wonderful wife and three terrific children ages 11, 8 and 3. He is also a professionally trained clown and visited many sick children while in Baltimore under the name of “Bow-Tox” who ‘took the wrinkles out of life.’ “Bow-Tox” has been retired for over ten years but comes out frequently to ease patient’s suffering during difficult moments.
