Mishawaka, March 25, 2020- Center for Hospice Care is proud to announce Dr. Karissa Misner as the organization’s new Medical Director. Dr. Misner is succeeding Dr. Greg Gifford who retired in December after serving the agency for more than nearly 11 years.
Dr. Misner will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary team and act as a medical resource for the group, guiding the work of those who provide direct medical services and assuring compliance with medical standards of care. Among her responsibilities are to ensure that every patient is provided with the highest level of care and that the care provided meets every patient’s unique needs. She will also play a crucial role in supporting the hospice care team and ensuring that every facet of the Center for Hospice Care’s patient care program is operating at the highest of standards.
Previously, Dr. Karissa Misner worked for over ten years with the elderly population in Skilled Nursing Facilities and as Medical Director for several Inpatient Rehabilitation Units. It was there she developed a strong interest in helping the elderly regain their independence while taking care of their medical issues. She also served as a medical missionary in Peru for two years where her experiences solidified her passion for end of life care that she still carries with her today.
Dr. Misner graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004 with great distinction. Prior to her Doctoral degree in Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Misner received a Bachelor of Health Science degree as well as a Master of Physical Therapy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. Both of those degrees were also earned with great distinction. After medical school, she completed a 4-year residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and served as Chief Resident. Dr. Misner is married to Matt Misner, a local Pediatrician. They have three beautiful children.
