PHS Track and Field Excells at DAC Meet

The Girls and Boys Track and Field teams finished off their indoor track season on Tuesday night at the Portage High School field house.


Tori Bliss, the National Shot Put Champion, finished 1st at the DAC Finals meet, with an impressive 45’ 1” throw. Bliss, who holds numerous
Portage and State records, now, can add a DAC indoor track championship to her impressive High School record, which already includes honors in Basketball, Soccer and Track and Field. Bliss also finished 1st at the Indoor Track State finals on March 19th with a throw of 40’ 3.5”, four feet more than the second place finisher. Bliss will attend Louisiana State University come fall, to participate in Track and Field at the college level.

Another stand out star at the Duneland Athletic Conference finals was Kristi Evans, a Portage senior, who finished 2nd in the Girls Long Jump with an impressive jump of 16’ 5”. Kristi, who also competed at the State Finals on the 19th finishing in the top 50 in both the 55 meter dash and the long jump, finished 1st in the 55 meter dash with a 7.41 seconds time, enough to get another DAC championship for the Indians.

On the Boys side, Chesterton dominated in the Shot Put, taking home the DAC Championship, but Portage was not far behind with Junior Joey Little finishing in 2nd with a 52' 9" throw and Senior, Vince Fisher, finishing in 3rd with 47' 9" throw.
The Boys also had an impressive 4x400 getting 1st place in the second heat.

The Boys outdoor season will begin on April 5th at Munster High School and the Girls will start on April 7th at Portage against Boone Grove and Wheeler.
