Cappo’s Charity Golf Outing Benefiting NorthShore Health Centers- A Good Round Had By All

For a Friday the 13th, the morning started off warm and beautiful...Sunshine, Shorts and Sunglasses were a must. By the end of the day, the golfers were buying sweatshirts and umbrellas in the Pro Shop and begging us for PortageLife jackets.

Rain or shine, all the golfers were out there to show their appreciation for the critical role that NorthShore Health Centers plays in our community.

Cappo's stepped forward once again to sponsor the outing and had a great supporting team of other groups that jumped in to help. Quality Impressions sponsored the tasty luncheon, and Beverage Cart sponsors were Porter Bank, BT Cleaning, and Stan's Painting, and the Scorecard Sponsor was Rhame & Elwood. Portage FOP #145 sponsored the Hole in One Contests, including a car from Arnell Autos. Town & Country donated donuts for breakfast to kick off teh day, and Cappo's donated the dinner which consisted of BBQ Ribs, Baked Pork Chops, and Chicken and all the fixings...delicious!

We had a Raffle Basket Table of donated items which included a 19" TV, Premier Design Jewelry, Liquor Basket, Wine Basket with an overnight stay at Country Inn and Suites, a gift certificate to Longhorn, a Coffee & Kahlua Basket, 4 Cubs Tickets, an iPod Touch, and an iPad. Of course, the iPad was a hit!

Winners of the Golf game included: 1st Place Winner- Tom Golab's A Team, 2nd Place Winner- Jeff Smith's Team (Portage Township Schools).

In the giving nature of this outing, a number of golf and raffle winners donated their winnings back including Tom Golab (skins), Ken Elwood (skins), Brady Bryan (closest to the pin), and Edna Elwood (50/50 winner).

Mike Scott's team was the Loser Team, coming in last place, and received the "Booby Prize"- plastic practice balls. Mike is an avid golfer that gets out every chance he gets AND he was even laughing about it...what a good sport. I sell 50/50 tickets, wrapping the tickets all the way around your belly (like a hug) for $20.00. I told Mike if he gains 5 more pounds, it would take two of us to do his wrap-around :) Thank goodness for his sense of humor, as he chuckled and gave me $20.

Duane from The Brassie gets an extra Whoo Hoooo from myself and everyone included with the outing as he was awesome to work with. I know absolutely NOTHING about golf and Duane has always been so pleasant and kind to us non-golfers. He really went above and beyond to make sure we had a successful outing. If you know anyone considering a golf outing, they should talk to Duane at 219.921.1192.

The Golf Outing Committee included Dolly Cummins, Edna Elwood, Michelle Bourge, and Donna Scott, and we are proud that the outing will bring in donations to NorthShore of $10,000, which is excellent in these challenging economic times.

Thanks to all the hole sponsors, the golfers, the volunteers, our host at The Brassie, and to NorthShore Health Centers for all you do for our community year round.
