Portage Unit: Samantha Bey
South Haven Unit: Mychell Carlisle

Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s Member of the Month program is for youth ages 5 to 18. The purpose is to recognize members for outstanding interaction and positive involvement in the Club. Additionally, the program motivates youth to participate in all areas of their Club, follow Clubhouse rules, and to encourage members to help staff and other Club members.

Club members are nominated by a staff member and recognized as an area achiever. All nominations are presented to staff who then votes on one Member of the Month. Member of the Month is an important milestone in preparation for the prestigious national Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Youth of the Year program. Youth of the Year is BGCA’s premier youth recognition program for Club members. All members can benefit from participation in this program, which promotes and celebrates service to Club, community and family; academic performance; moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. The Youth of the Year program is a year-round tool for fostering young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities. Local Clubs recognize members ages 14-18 who were Youths of the Month and select a Youth of the Year, who then participates in state competition. State winners receive $1,000 scholarships and participate in regional competitions. Five regional winners each receive an engraved plaque and a $10,000 scholarship and compete on the national level.
