Local pilots and aerial photographers, Tom and Brad Cavanaugh released a hardback, coffee table-style book of over 100 color images of Northwest Indiana.
Shot from up to five thousand feet above ground level, from the seat of a helicopter, the book, “Northwest Indiana: A Different View” presents photographs of the Dunes, Lake Michigan, local high schools, golf courses across the region, and many other landmarks in Lake and Porter counties. “This book will feel like having a front row seat in our helicopter,” said Brad Cavanaugh, owner of Air One Aerial Photography.
“The book is unique because of the aerial views, but the comprehensive spread of photos makes the book appealing to anyone interested in the region,” Tom Cavanaugh said, “We’ve featured aerials of landscapes like the Kankakee River and Lake of the Four Seasons, alongside industrial shots of power plants, the steel mills, and barges on Lake Michigan. And then we have the timely shots of the 2008 floods in Hammond and Munster or the addition of the new student union at Valparaiso University.”
Tom Cavanaugh has been flying helicopters and small planes out of the Porter County airport for over fifty years. He began teaching his son Brad when he was twelve years old. By age sixteen, Brad had earned his own pilot’s license. Since 1995, Tom and Brad have been collaborating on aerial photography projects.
The book is available for $39.99 at the Air One Aerial Photography gallery located at 64 West Lincolnway in Valparaiso
