Franciscan Health Michigan City, in cooperation with Bolt for the Heart, the City of Michigan City, the Michigan City Parks Department and the Play For Jake Foundation, invites area runners and walkers to the inaugural Bolt for the Heart Family 5K on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at 8am in Washington Park. The event will raise funds to place lifesaving automatic external defibrillators in all LaPorte County patrol cars
Members of the media can learn more at the official kickoff for the event during a news conference at 9AM on Tuesday, July 23, at Franciscan Health Michigan City in the Blessed Maria Theresia Bonzel Community Room.
The Bolt for the Heart organization and their partners have placed nearly 2,000 AEDs in Indiana. The eight law enforcement departments in LaPorte County are partnering with Bolt for the Heart in this event, where 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward the goal of placing an additional 150 AEDs in the LaPorte County area to help save people who experience sudden cardiac arrest.
Franciscan Health is the presenting sponsor for the Bolt for the Heart Family 5K. Individual entries are $30 and include a shirt and medal for those who sign up during the early registration period. Groups and families who buy four registrations get one free.
A Play For Jake registration package for $99 includes a jacket, shirt, custom bib and a Franciscan Health CT heart scan. The Play For Jake Foundation looks to create awareness and educate parents and youth about the dangers of undetected heart conditions. The foundation is named in honor of Jake West, a LaPorte High School football player who passed away suddenly during practice from an undetected heart condition.
Online registration for the Bolt for the Heart Family 5K is available at www.boltfortheheart.com.
