Billinero, an app-based savings account that gamifies banking and awards monthly and quarterly cash prizes, has named Michele Pickering of Portage, Ind., as its seventh monthly $1,000 winner.
Pickering said she opened a Billinero account after hearing about the app through her bank, Centier Bank, and was enticed by the idea of winning a cash prize for doing what she was already doing—saving. Pickering found out she was the monthly winner two days before heading out on a vacation to Hilton Head, SC, with her Labrador, Hope.
Pickering said she has been using Billinero to save at least $300 a month in order to maximize her chances of winning. Now, she said, she has money saved up and even more to add to it.
“If anyone loves deals and saving as much as I do, then they should definitely download the app and open their account,” she explained. “I was with my colleagues today and told them about how I just won the drawing, and they immediately pulled out their phones to download Billinero.”
Chris Campbell, Executive Vice President of Billinero, said a recent study revealed that 40 percent of Americans don’t have $400 in their savings accounts to cover an emergency or unexpected expense.
“Billinero was designed to encourage good savings habits, helping people save a little at a time in order to see how small changes can make a big difference to your financial health,” Campbell said. “Our goal is to help people want to save so they don’t have to rely on loans or credit cards, setting them back even further from their financial goals.”
Billinero is gearing up to award its third $10,000 cash prize to one lucky user at the end of April.
