Later this summer, the Washington Park waterfront in Michigan City, Ind., will host a fleet of boats ranging from small inflatables to powerboats, sailboats and even a 65-foot schooner at the 31st annual Michigan City In-Water Boat Show!

The event drops anchor Aug. 19 and will wrap up Aug. 22.

In between, visitors will be able to walk the docks and compare more than 100 boats offered at special end-of-the-season blowout prices.

The timing is perfect for everyone,” said Show Manager Ken Alvey. “When the boating season starts to wrap up, dealers like to clear out some space in their showrooms and will offer the best prices of the year at the show. It works for buyers, too, because they can use the fall and winter to get their new purchases ready to launch first-thing next spring.”

This year, the tall ship Appledore IV will make a special appearance to take attendees for hourlong cruises on Lake Michigan. michigan-city-boat-water-show

The vessel stretches 65 feet from stern to bow and boasts 3,500 square feet of material in its sails.

Off the docks, several tents will house displays from vendors selling marine electronics, accessories, clothing, sunglasses and other must-have items for the boating lifestyle.

Capt’n Willie the Great Lakes Pirate will perform several shows each day to teach kids and families about boating safety and the region’s ecosystem.

The boat show will share the park for the first time with the Lubeznik Center’s long-running Lakefront Art Festival, providing area residents with the unique “Anchors and Art Weekend.”

The Michigan City In-Water Boat Show will be sponsored by Allstate, McDonald’s, the Blue Chip Casino Hotel, NIPSCO and Miller Lite and will be open noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Admission will be $10 for adults, children 12 and younger will get in free.
