Best of fall 2021 school performances

From band to the choir to theatre, the Region has many talented performing arts students across middle schools and high schools. This fall, GreatNews.Life was in multiple counties and cities covering these students' performances and you can still look back on them all.

In no particular order, here are the best of Northwest Indiana fall 2021 school performances:

Chesterton High School presents "A Funny Thing Happen on the Way to the Forum"

Set in ancient Roman times, the show is witty, fast-paced, and full of surprises as it follows the antics of Pseudolus, a crafty slave, striving to play matchmaker for his master, Hero, in exchange for his freedom.

Crown Point High School theatre brings the laughs with "Rumors"

“Rumors” is a farcical comedy set in the 1980s about a dinner party gone wrong, with the attendees trying to figure out how to tell each other about something no one really knows actually happened.

Merrillville High Schol theatre program presents Rose and the Rime

“Rose and the Rime” is about a town called Radio Falls which was once popular with its summer beach scene. Unfortunately, it has long since been cursed to its bleak snow ridden state.

Valparaiso High School premieres "Ranked: A Musical" for the first time in Indiana

Set in a high school where the only thing that matters is class rank, the academic leader board determines who is “Above the Average” and who is “Below." Students must find their place as they try desperately to stay above the status quo, even if that means destroying themselves and each other to score their way to the top.

Portage High School's fall play, Geek!, runs November 12 t0 14 with in-person and virtual performances

The lesson of the Geek! show is that we all have choices. This show especially deals with the idea that sometimes we don't understand why people choose the things that they do. That's why it's important to have friends and the things that you love so that you can remember kind of why you exist.

LaPorte High School Band hosts fall concert

The concert, which included the symphonic bands and wind ensemble, delivered more than a handful of songs that entertained the audience while challenging the students’ skills. A few songs featured a different melody composed by four gifted players, Esther Chairez-Munoz, Damon Burkhart, Abbas Hakim, and Elizabeth Hopper.

Kesling Intermediate and LaPorte Middle Schools fall orchestra concert

The sixth-grade students started off the evening with several short songs that gave a good indication of what they had learned. The songs included “Finger Mix-Up,” “Hot Cross Buns,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” and “This Old Man.”     

The seventh-graders then took the stage with three songs that were longer and demonstrated how they had improved. The songs included “At the Grasshopper Ball,” “The Blue Danube Waltz,” and “Celtic Dance.”
