You can't help but think about your old school memories when you attend a back to school night. Remembering seeing your friends you had missed over the summer, checking schedules to see if your friends are in your classes and hoping you got this teacher or that one. On Monday night the halls of Willowcreek Middle School were filled with all that excitement.
Willowcreek traditionally serves its students and their families hotdogs on this special occasion and the only thing different about the event tonight was the fact that Dr. Richard Weigel, Portage's new Superintendent, was manning one of the grills. Not only was Dr. Weigel helping out with the food, but he came in and mingled with the students and checked out the classrooms.
All the students were excited to take their schedules and compare them with their friends. Did they have the same teachers, were they on the same teams?
Lockers were set up in the halls for students to practice locker combinations on so that they would be familiar with handling their lockers. There was a group of three getting the procedure down pat before running off to get their schedules from their parents and checking to see if they were on the same teams.
Willowcreek Principal, Michelle Stewart was glad to see everyone coming in to the school.
"It's always wonderful and exciting to have the kids back in the building. There is an air of excitement that can't be beat," Stewart said.
That's true! New classes, new teachers, new friends along with hotdogs to top it all off! How can back to school night get any better than that?
