Assessor Announces New Website with Online Appeals

Porter-CountyThe Assessor’s Office unveiled a new website today, with enhanced capabilities that will allow taxpayers to conduct business online - including the ability to file property tax appeals electronically.

One of the issues I stressed when I took office was to give taxpayers the option to file appeals over the internet,” Snyder said. “It took a collaborated effort to get this site done in time to accommodate the 2011 pay 2012 appeals window, but we are excited that it is finally ready to be launched.”

Assessment notices, known as Form 11’s, will be mailed beginning Friday, with the appeals deadline 45 days after the date of notice on the form.

The site features other taxpayer tools, including the ability for property owners to submit information from their green door hanger questionnaires online. Snyder stressed that other tools will be made available as well as they are developed. “I believe in letting taxpayers do as much as possible without having to make a special trip to the county building,” he said.

In addition to online appeals and door hanger information, the site will give taxpayers access to other assessment information, including detailed property records, property valuation history, and other information related to their assessment. The site will also feature frequently asked questions about the property tax assessment and billing process, as well as contact information for senior assessing staff.

Taxpayers can access most of the website starting today at www.portercountyassessor.com. The online appeals tool will go live on Friday, to coincide with the mailing of Form 11 notices.
