For a people person like Zachary Statler, working as a server at one of the most popular restaurants around is ideal. He is a veteran in food service, having worked at a variety of places and chains in the past. After a little over a year at Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille, he is still pleasantly surprised with positivity.

“There’s something special about this place specifically, I’ve never been somewhere that has a theme like this where we honor American heroes,” Statler said. “I learn something new every time I come in. I’ve always been kind of a history buff so it makes my job fun when super-enthusiastic people come in and ask all kinds of questions.”

Part of Statler’s job description is knowing what specials are on the menu each week. For some restaurants, that means knowing what’s on a burger or how something’s cooked. But Statler has the additional task of learning the names and background on the American heroes and icons honored with every special. It helps that he loves the food.

“Here, I’m proud to tell my friends and family that we’ve got delicious stuff,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of pride in what I do here and in what the kitchen does.”

The crew at Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille is very close knit, and most of them have been a part of the team for quite some time.

“It’s just such a good work environment for us,” he said. “We’re all like best friends. This is probably the only job I’ve ever worked where everyone is like a family. When we get off work, we’re sitting outside hanging out together and even on our off days we’re all spending time together.”

One thing that stood out to Statler is how everyone working with him loves to stay busy, including his managers.

“They’re not afraid to get their hands dirty,” Statler said. “If it gets busy Ronnie [Sazone, General Manager] will jump in the kitchen and start cooking burgers. If I need help at one of my tables, he’ll back me up. Seeing that makes me want to work harder for him.”

In his free time, Statler likes to keep things low-key. He spends time with friends and family, and plays games. Sometimes he dabbles in music, playing both piano and guitar. He lives in Portage, where he was born and raised.
