Alzheimer’s Association to Host Session on Caregiving for Those with Alzheimer’s Disease

AlzheimersAssociationBecoming an Expert Caregiver” a free workshop on supporting those who serve as caregivers to people Alzheimer’s disease, will be held Monday, January 10, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Portage Township YMCA. The session, which is free to the public, requires registration by contacting the Association at 800-272-3900. The Portage Township YMCA is located at 3100 Willowcreek, Road, in Portage.

Becoming an Expert Caregiver” is for those who are caring for a loved one with memory loss. Topics include verbal and non-verbal communication, coping with challenging behavior; preventing wandering and aiding in activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting and eating.

Today, approximately 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, including 120,000 Hoosiers. Every 70 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s disease, making Alzheimer’s disease the 6th leading cause of death.
