AJ Portable Buildings has been servicing the Midwest’s custom-design building needs since 1983, offering storage sheds, garages and more. With custom craftsmanship and generous warranties, AJ’s invites customers from the Region, eastern Illinois, and southwest Michigan to purchase its products. Owner Pat Dykes has the potential to craft anything you might need and encourages folks to invest in structures that will protect their belongings.
AJ’s offers a variety of building types that boast a 20-year warranty and are fully customizable to fit size, location, and visual needs. This includes Yoder portable buildings, which can range anywhere between 8 feet by 8 feet to 16 feet by 52 feet.
AJs additionally has steel structures, which are commonly used as a carport for cars, motorhomes, farm equipment and trailers, and look like a detached garage. AJ’s can design a structure as small as 20 feet by 20 feet or as large as 60 feet by 500 feet.
“We do our best to make anything you need,” Dykes said. “It’s nice for people to have a place to put cars or boats or equipment that they spend a lot of money purchasing. Our steel structures have a 20-year warranty, so folks can have us service or repair their structure for a long time, depending on the circumstance.”
The natural elements, including sun, snow, ice, hail, and more erode and abuse cars and equipment, so covering important equipment helps increase its longevity.
AJ’s showcases some of its product options and features at its various locations. Alternatively, folks can come in and design their own product to best fit their needs, with options like windows, doors and floor and roof materials.
“I started selling steel structures after I bought one for myself,” Dykes said. “The salesperson asked me if I would be interested in selling similar structures, and I decided that I would. That was about 20 years ago.”
Customers can either purchase a structure full-out or through a rent-to-own option. In this way, a customer would pay off a certain amount of the full price each month over a period of time – anywhere from two to five years. This allows for flexibility based on the customer’s needs and how many structures they purchased at one time.
“We do some work with local mobile home parks,” Dykes said. “We will go in and install a group of carports for their tenants to use during their stay.”
A common issue that many farmers experience through the frigid winters and scorching summers in the Midwest is deciding where to keep their farming equipment and tools to best protect them. AJ’s steel structures and other buildings allow for heavy pieces of machinery to be protected without the risk of damaging the structure or building.
“I am trying to communicate with farmers to show them how these structures can hold and protect their equipment,” Dykes said. “When you’re living is dependent on the ability of your equipment to perform, it’s important to ensure that you’re keeping it safe.”
The team at AJ’s is small, with a staff of only eight people, but they are able to accomplish effective and reputable work. For customers within a 50 mile radius of any of AJ’s 12 locations in the state of Indiana, the team will deliver and install your building at no additional cost.
Dykes and the AJ Portable Buildings crew have cemented their reputation for customer service and satisfaction for the past four decades with small-scale projects like a backyard gazebo to large-scale ones like county fairs.
