“After Hours with a Heart” at Duneland Y May 14

rot1The Duneland Family YMCA, in partnership with the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, will host an “After Hours with a Heart” on Wednesday, May 14. The event will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Y’s campus, located at 215 Roosevelt St. in Chesterton.

Guests will enjoy snacks and sangria by Ed Kis of Great Lakes Catering, mini-tours of the campus by Y veterans, networking with community leaders, and the opportunity to hear incredible stories of the Y’s positive impact on local families.

The “After Hours with a Heart” event will serve as a kick-off to the Y’s annual campaign – a fundraiser that generates resources for the Strong Families Scholarship Fund. Every year, the Y awards $125K - $150K in scholarships to those in need. These funds are used for the Y’s Early Childhood Development Program, summer day camp, swimming lessons, infant childcare, and memberships for families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to benefit from such services.

“The stories we hear about the impact of these scholarships are deeply moving,” said Laurie Wehner-Evans, President of the Y’s Board of Directors. “Mothers are able to keep working or go back to school because they know their children are being taken care of - with the result that they’re able to secure better lives for themselves and their kids. We’re honored to be able to make a difference through our Strong Families Scholarships, and we’re very excited about sharing the back-story of this community-building program on May 14. ”

There is no cost to attend the “After Hours with a Heart,” though guests will be given the opportunity to make contributions to the scholarship fund during the gathering.
