A Portage Life in the Spotlight: Tabitha Bowe

Tabitha Bowe has always known that she wanted to work with and be surrounded by children. For as long as she can remember, children have been a love of hers, and now, she makes that love her job.

Bowe runs a program called Drop and Go out of the Portage Township YMCA. Through this program, parents are able to drop their children off for up to four hours while they run errands, go to doctors appointments, shopping, or just to have a little break. Bowe’s favorite part about working in the Drop and Go area is that she gets to be a kid and stay young at heart. She also gets to bring her young son to work with her everyday, something most parents are not able to do.

“I love children. I get to be a kid when I am working, and that is the best part of my job. I can be so silly and nobody judges me, it is wonderful. I also have a baby, and when I was looking for work, I wanted to be able to bring him with me. He joins me in the program, and he has just grown so much from it. I love my job; it has made everything so fun and great,” Bowe said.

Outside of working at the YMCA, Bowe is a single mother to three boys. Bowe homeschools her children, and in her free time, she enjoys crafting, crocheting, painting, and gardening. For as long as she can remember, Bowe has had a creative mind and has loved to create new things.

“I am a single mom to three boys; 16, 11, and three. I homeschool, so that is my first job. We’ve been homeschooling on and off since kindergarten. I have tried letting my oldest son into other programs and public schooling, but they all prefer to be homeschooled. Other than that, I love to craft, crochet, paint, and garden. I have always been a creative person. Every holiday I am always making some sort of decoration, or making my boys hats and scarves,” Bowe said.

In addition to being very crafty, Bowe strives to spread kindness wherever she goes. She tries to be a very positive person, and to uplift people’s days.

“I love to spread kindness. I am a super happy and positive person. I love to see people smile. That is one of the best parts of life, being kind to someone and then their whole day changes because you had a conversation with them. I would love to spread more positivity throughout this world,” Bowe said.

Bowe shows her kindness and is able to spread positivity throughout every day, just by doing the amazing work that she does. Without Bowe, and her love for children and positivity, parents and guardians would not be able to get a break, the break that Bowe supplies to them. Bowe is showing that whatever you want to do, you can and should do it.
