Courtney Castle’s motto when it comes to work is that there is no problem she can’t fix.
As an administrative assistant for Portage Utility Services-Field Forces, Castle’s job involves working with a lot of people within the community. While she does the typical office work and scheduling, Castle believes she also has another duty there.
“I sometimes feel like I am the rock of the business and keep everything turning,” Castle said. “Anyone who comes to me with a problem, I know that I will be able to solve it.”
Castle came to Portage from Burns Harbor; Her original home has a little bit of history behind it. Her grandparents were the first people to build a house on their street, and she was also born on Castle Street.
“Whenever I told people where I was from they just always kind of laughed,” Castle said. “It was a great place to grow up, along with a bit of irony thrown in there as well.”
Castle, in general, loves to make things better for people, and has for most of her life. Since age 15, she has pursued activities that enable her to help wherever she can. For six years, she worked with the Portage Animal Clinic which lead to her current job. Castle claims that no matter where she is, she has one goal: to help the community.
“I have always been a very outgoing person from the very beginning,” Castle said. “Life always throws a lot of challenges in front of you, but whatever they are, I am always ready to conquer them without fear.”
When it comes to the future, Castle claims that she has not thought that far ahead. She doesn’t want things to stay the same, but she feels like her life can’t get any better than it already is at the moment.
“I am happy with where I am and with how things are going in life right now,” Castle said. “I hope the future brings just as many happy things, but I am in no rush to get there. I love working with the people that I do.”
When things get stressful, Castle has the perfect outlet, her dog Stuart. When she isn’t at work, her life revolves around the cutest pug in the world. Each day she walks a mile with him and when the weather allows it, they head to the beach. He may be a handful at times, but she wouldn't trade him for the world.
As Castle said, no matter what challenges lie in front of her, she will always conquer them.
“Every time you walk by someone you should smile,” Castle said. “You don’t know how it could make their day—it can make a huge difference.”
