Courtney Brown is the Kids Ministry Director for Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene. Brown went to school for nursing but realized that she was truly passionate about working with kids and wished to make that her career.
“I realized that I really enjoy working with kids,” Brown said. ”I worked at a daycare, coached kids sports growing up, and served at the church as a volunteer for a while.”
Brown expressed that the position in the church fell into her lap. She had always been an active member of the church, so she took the leap.
“I went to college for nursing, not for being a kids' director. But I’ve always served in the church and they realized that there was potential in me for this position,” said Brown.
Brown expressed that along with her love of working with children, she loves teaching them that learning about religion doesn’t have to be something boring.
“I just absolutely love teaching the kids that learning about Jesus is fun,” Brown said. “It can be fun learning and memorizing Bible verses or doing activities. It doesn't just have to be boring stuff.”
Brown has worked with the church for around eight years and has served in this position for around a year and a half.
“I fell in love with this job very fast and realized that I think this is where God wants me,” Brown said. “I think this is where I should be, and I've just loved it ever since then.”
Although Brown has dedicated herself to working with kids, she also leads a very full life outside of her work. Brown has three children of her own and is married to her high school sweetheart. She expressed her love for fitness and staying healthy. She also discussed the DIY projects that she does.
“My husband and I build wood furniture, and I like to DIY pretty much everything in our house - all the decorations are my DIY projects,” said Brown.
All around, Brown is a very active member in the community. She has continually shown her dedication to working with and educating children.
