A Christmas Story Comes Home Continues Through January 8

Christmas-Story-Comes-Home-1The South Shore CVA is pleased to report that our "A Christmas Story" Comes Home exhibit at the Indiana Welcome Center is less than 700 visitors away from breaking our past attendance records, and just short of our 2nd highest gift shop sales record.

If you have not had a chance to see this exhibit, I invite you to bring your family before it ends January 8th, and view the six animatronic window displays we purchased from Macy's in New York 4 years ago. We are open 8am to 5pm, 7 days a week.

As a thank you to our visitors, we will be presenting the person who breaks the attendance record a gift basket filled with "A Christmas Story" products, a gift certificate to El Taco Real in Hammond, and an overnight stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Merrillville. We will also present the customer who breaks the gift shop sales record 50% off their purchase up to a maximum discount of $50.

Also, mark your calendars for our annual Tourism Luncheon on Wednesday, May 9th and for Gary's South Shore Air Show on July 6th-8th featuring the US Air Force Thunderbirds!

Christmas-Story-Comes-Home-2This holiday season, the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond will feature six animated display scenes from A Christmas Story as well as weekend events and opportunities to meet the cast of the movie. The displays include; Higbee’s Department Store Window, Flick’s Tongue and the Triple Dog Dare, It’s a Major Award, Santa’s Mountain at Higbee’s, The Bumpus Hounds, and the Parker Living Room.

The redesigned A Christmas Story Comes Home exhibit will be on display from November 12, 2011 until January 8, 2012 in the W.F. Wellman Exhibit Hall. The new design takes visitors to the streets of downtown Hohman, the fictional Indiana town, which was a disguise for Shepherd’s hometown: Hammond. The Indiana Welcome Center is located at the intersection of I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue South in Hammond; only 30 minutes from downtown Chicago and 2 hours north of Indianapolis.
