1st Source Bank Presents $7,250 Check to Portage High School JROTC

1st-source-jrotcThe Portage High School JROTC program received a boost of $7,250 on Wednesday from 1st Source Bank, who presented a check to the program outside PHS.

The funds will be used to cover the total cost of a cadet leadership camp in which 32 cadets and two instructors from the high school will spend a week in JROTC training, performing team building activities and working on developing leadership traits with other cadets.

“We like to support organizations that make our community stronger and wiser,” said Bob Ax, regional president for 1st Source Bank. “With Portage Township Schools and the JROTC, you get two for one.”

Ax, who said he was “delighted” to make the presentation, praised Jesus Cervantes of 1st Source, who he said is a former Marine who has shown a special interest in serving as a mentor for the program.

Portage Township Schools Superintendent Ric Frataccia said the JROTC program there is “a terrific group.”

“We appreciate the efforts of 1st Source Bank in providing this quality and meaningful program for the kids,” he said.
