Ride into adventure with our weekend guide as Tour de La Porte returns!

VALPO NIGHT RIDE

Experience the thrill of bicycling by starlight during the 8th Valpo Night Ride. This 15-mile ride begins and ends at the Butterfield Family Pavilion and allows participants to ride in and around the City at a safe pace at night. Riders will enjoy a mid-ride snack at Valparaiso's Central Park Plaza and an after ride party at the pavilion. Police support and volunteers along the route make the Valpo Night Ride a must-do event! All ages are welcome, however, under 18 must be accompanied and ride with an adult.

CHICAGO STREET THEATRE PRESENTS A WRINKLE IN TIME

One of literature’s most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry, is back–braces, stubbornness and all. Once again, she’s joining forces with Mrs. Whatsit, Charles Wallace, Calvin O’Keefe and more to battle the forces of evil so she can rescue her father, save humanity and find herself. In the end, we know two things for sure: 1. Love CAN overcome evil and 2. There IS such a thing as a tesseract. Directed by Kari-Anne Innes, Assistant Director Jill Thomas.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

Double points State Race ... a chance to accumulate another score towards the State Final in October! Sign ups will be 2-4pm (NOTE THAT THE SIGN UP TIME IS DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR SATURDAY SIGNUPS). Race will begin at 5pm. You will be able to presign for this race beginning Thursday August 22nd and presigns will close at noon on the 24th. Race fee is $20 for class or cruiser ; $35 for class and cruiser; $5 for open or strider.

Patients with cancer face many challenges, some of them financial. The Tour de La Porte is a cycling, running and walking event benefiting patients with cancer in our community. All event proceeds provide direct assistance to patients. Learn more about this event at tourdelaporte.org.

SAVING A CENTURY OF PROGRESS: REBIRTH OF THE HOMES

Robin Carlascio and Theresa Badovich will present a program on the storied beginnings and rebirth of the Century of Progress Homes along the Dunes National Lakeshore. Take a journey with the 1933 World’s Fair homes and the lessees who restored them. Call it great fortune, serendipity, and maybe destiny, the five homes owe their survival to complicated, seemingly unrelated circumstances that saved them not once, but many times.

GUIDED HIKE: WILD MUSHROOMS OF NORTHWEST INDIANA

There are over 1,000 species of mushrooms reported from the greater Chicago region, many of them from Indiana Dunes National Lake Shore. Join mycologist Dr. Greg Mueller on a mushroom hunt at Cowles Bog. Greg is Chief Scientist and Negaunee Foundation Vice President for Science at the Chicago Botanic Garden and has been studying the fungi of the Indiana Dunes for over 30 years.
