Each week we bring you 10 Fun Things to Do in Northwest Indiana so you are never without something to do! This weekend we have fundraising and awareness walks, autograph signing food drive, Spring Out to Sunset, dodgeball challenge, a car show, K9 demonstrations, and more!

Opening Reception for Material Possessions and Ignorance With Wings
Lubeznik Center for the Arts will hold an opening reception for its new exhibits Material Possessions, contemporary fiber art by Frank Connet, Karen Gubitz, Aram Han, John Paul Morabito, Lisa Lee Peterson and Clifford Peterson (Hyndman Gallery); and, Ignorance With Wings by Michael Bill Smith (Brincka-Cross and Northview second floor galleries). Artists will be present during the event to answer questions about their work. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free to the public.

2014 Valpo Relay For Life Set for May 17
The community is invited to celebrate the lives of those who have survived cancer, remember those lost to cancer and empower others to fight back at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Greater Valparaiso, “Carnival For A Cure,” on May 17-18.

Support the Valparaiso Police Department K-9 Unit at Culver's
Come and help us support our local Valpo K-9 unit on May 17! Officers and their K-9 partners from the Valparaiso Police Department will be there doing demonstrations. The event lasts from 10am to 10pm. Come visit with the officers and check out the patrol cars from 11am-4pm.

Porter County Expo Center to Hold the Valpo Car Show & Swap Meet
Come on out to the Porter County Expo Center on May 18th for the Valpo Car Show and Swap Meet with cars and vendors from FIVE states! The car show is free with your paid admission of $5. Children under 12 and under are free! Top 50 classic cars will receive an award, plus a best of show, best paint and best engine.

Crown Point Walk to End Lupus Now
This event is a half day of fun, food, and friendship with activities for the whole family to enjoy, all to celebrate our participants' hard work in fundraising! Lupus is one of the most cruel and mysterious diseases on earth. It strikes without warning, has unpredictable and sometimes fatal effects, lasts a lifetime and has no known cause or cure. Baseball Card Exchange Free Autograph Signing for Alicia's House Food Pantry
The Baseball Card Exchange will host a free autograph signing with Chicago Cub great, Milt Pappas, and Chicago White Sox great, Carlos May, on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The free autograph signing will begin at 4pm and last until 6pm. For each autograph, customers must make a donation of two non-perishable food items.

5th Annual Play4Life Corporate Dodgeball Challenge
The 5th Annual Play4Life Corporate Dodgeball Challenge will take place Saturday, May 17th, 2014 from 10 am to 2 pm at Marquette Catholic High School Student Center in Michigan City.

Portage Porpoise Swim Club Fundraiser Set for May 17th
The Portage Porpoise Swim Club will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 17th from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the Portage High School Cafeteria. The first annual Pancake Breakfast is $5 per person, children under 3 eat free with a paying adult and Vets eat free. In an effort to raise funds for the swim club in addition to the breakfast there will be a silent auction.

Girls on the Run to Hold NWI Spring 5K is May 17 in Highland
Girls on the Run® Northwest Indiana will hold its Spring 5K Run at 8 a.m. on May 17 at Highland High School. Girls on the Run® of Northwest Indiana is a life-changing, character development program for Third- through Eighth-grade girls that is offered at more than 40 sites in Porter, Lake, LaPorte and Jasper counties in Northwest Indiana and serves more than 700 girls.

Spring Out Offers Family Fun  
Every year, Porter County Parks and Recreation celebrates the transition from the cold, harsh Northwest Indiana winter to the beautiful spring and summer months with the Spring Out to Sunset Festival! This festival serves as a gathering of hundreds of region residents celebrating all the outdoor fun that summer in the parks has to offer.
