May 4: Logs to Lustrons Talk - Portage, IN
For those who want a deeper understanding of the century of architecture at the Indiana Dunes, there will be an illustrated talk with speakers Todd Zeiger, Director of Indiana Landmarks' Northern Regional Office; Cliff Goins, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Special Events Manager; and the Shymanski family, restorers of the Oscar and Irene Nelson house and outbuildings!
May 4-6: Imagination Glen - Portage, IN
At 276 acres, Imagination Glen is the largest park in the City of Portage. Located along the eastern boundary of the city, between State Road 149 and McCool Road, Imagination Glen is home to the Park Department’s softball and soccer complexes, two sand volleyball courts, a BMX race track, and the 10-mile Outback Mountain Bike Trail. The park also contains a large nature preserve, two playgrounds, picnic shelters, open play space, access to fishing on Salt Creek and is bordered to the south by the Iron Horse Trail. Come out this weekend and enjoy the warm weather!
May 5: Blue Chip Brewfest - Michigan City, IN
Join Blue Chip Casino for their 8th Annual Brewfest on May 5. It will take place in the 1st Floor of Parking Structure, DJ Entertainment will be at the event as well and, of course, some of the area's best breweries with their finest selections!
May 5: La Porte County Symphony Orchestra: From Hollywood to Broadway - La Porte, IN
Maestro has developed a season closer that will leave you begging for more with this Pops Concert! This program will include selections from screen favorites such as Harg Potter and Avatar as well as from stage including, Mama Ma. and Hamilton. They will also welcome national & critically acclaimed composer and former La Porte music educator, Rick DeJonge, as guest conductor to present the premier of his Silent Film Tribute, set to video that takes us back to the satire, slapstick, & sounds of vintage Hollywood!
May 5: #DANSTRONG 5k Run/3k Walk - Schererville, IN
Join us for a timed 5k run/3k walk to celebrate the life of Dan Runyan, Grimmer Science Teacher and Track Coach, who passed away on February 2, 2018. All proceeds will go to the Runyan family.
May 5: Region Games - Chesterton, IN
Lace up those tennis shoes for a field day with a purpose. Join the region’s young professionals for a day of fun, complete with; Tug-A-War, Relay Games, Trivia, Giant Jenga, and Cornhole. If you work up an appetite, and we are sure you will, food and drinks will be available to purchase from Leroy's "Hot Stuff." The conclusion of the event will be awards and announcement of the nonprofit booth winners!
May 5: Humane Indiana Wildlife Hosts Bat Appreciation Day - Valparaiso, IN
Are you batty about bats? Humane Indiana Wildlife’s Education Center will host a Bat Appreciation Day on May 5 from noon to 3 p.m. The Education Center is located at 566 N. 450 E., Valparaiso, Ind. Join Humane Indiana Wildlife to learn about the different bat species native to Northwest Indiana and the ways you can help protect local bat populations. This family-friendly event will include crafts, activities, and an educational presentation!
May 5: Open House at Valpo Compost Site - Valparaiso, IN
The City of Valparaiso and Porter County Recycling & Waste Reduction offer an opportunity for all Porter County residents to learn more about a resource that can help them make a difference in the environment. The family-friendly event will feature tours, activities, giveaways, prize drawings and lots of information and education that will help the public fully utilize the site!
May 6: VNA Stroll for Hospice - Valparaiso, IN
Enjoy a day in the park with family and friends as we "Stroll for Hospice" in memory of loved ones and help the VNA continue to provide compassionate care for patients and their families. After your Stroll, we'll have lunch at the beautiful Urschel Pavilion or bring your picnic blanket to sit in the park. There will be hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers along with other picnic fare!
May 6: Delta Theta Tau Hat Luncheon - Chesterton, IN
