Temperatures are expected to reach into the triple digits tomorrow for the first time this year. In advance of the hot weather, the City of Portage has implemented it's emergency cooling center protocol.
Cooling centers will be housed in Woodland Park and at the Portage Fire Department Headquarter's Training Room at Station One located at 3401 Swanson Rd., which is just north of US Highway 6. If you need assistance getting to either cooling center please contact the Portage Fire Department at 762-7404 and they will organize a pick up. As always, if it is an emergency please dial 911.
The centers will be open from 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning until 8:00 p.m. that evening. Anyone requiring additional assistance can contact the American Red Cross of Porter County at (219) 462-8543 or the Portage Township Trustee's Office at (219) 762-1623.
In the event that a major power outage affects all or a large part of the city, the Portage Fire Department has the ability to mobilize additional supplies for the cooling centers fairly quickly.
IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY, DIAL 911 IMMEDIATELY!
