Greenhouse and Nursery Managers to Tour the Brincka-Cross Gardens

Purdue-ExtensionPurdue University Cooperative Extension Service and the Northwest Indiana Floriculture Association will co-sponsor an educational program for people in the plant nursery, greenhouse, and retail garden center businesses on Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CDT at Brincka-Cross Gardens, 427 East Furness Road, Michigan City, Indiana.

The program will begin with a tour of the Brincka-Cross Gardens, led by Matt Brown, Horticulturalist for Porter County Parks and Recreation. Highlights of the gardens include hundreds of different types of hostas and daffodils, numerous daylily varieties, and over two dozen varieties of crab apples and forsythia. In addition to the gardens, the property includes a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired house.

After the tour, James Potthoff, District Forester for Kankakee Fish and Wildlife Area, will teach about plants that can become invasive and destroy natural habitats in the region. The program will end with a presentation by Lyndsay Ploehn, Purdue Extension Educator, about resources from Purdue Extension for greenhouse and nursery producers as well as their customers.
