Alton Goin Museum and Trager Farmhouse Opens for Season

alton-goin-museumoutsidePortage Community Historical Society is announcing the re-opening for the 2012 season, the Alton Goin Museum and Trager Farmhouse. Both will be open and available to tour beginning April 14 & 15. Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Countryside Park, 5350 US Hwy 6, Portage across from Camelot Lanes. We are accessible by the walking trail and we have a fishing pond behind the barn. We are free of charge and invite families to come for an few hours and enjoy the park and museums.

We have added a genealogy and history research area concentrating on the early history and the pioneer families of Portage Township. We've also added several Portage High School yearbooks to our collection.

On display for opening are some of the plaques from City Hall of the baseball, softball and basketball teams from Little League, Portage Jr. Miss and Youth Basketball sponsor plaques.

ATTENTION PHS 2011 GRADUATES and SENIORS who went to MYERS SCHOOL! The Portage Historical Society is looking for you if you were in ART ATTACK and helped to paint 2 huge murals for the Historical Society in 2004. The murals are their most prized possessions and have recently been hand framed by Joe Mollick. They are honoring the murals at their opening this year! You are invited to attend and see your work that you painted with art teacher Mrs. Bridget Nadolski and 5th grade teacher Mrs. Joanne Patterson. The OPENING is Sat. & Sun.
