Porter Remains Committed to Investing in Portage Community

Nalli-Portage-Chamber-1Medical Excellence + Patient-Centered Care = Porter’s Culture. Porter CEO Jonathan Nalli visited the monthly Portage Chamber Luncheon to share how Porter is actively serving the Portage community. “We continue to put a great deal of investment in Portage because Portage continues to allow a return on our investment.

Since 2007, Porter has recruited more than 40 additional high credentialed physicians to the region, added new technologies and procedures, fused evidence-based medicine with evidence-based customer service, and increased communications. “Every physician we bring on board practices in Portage at some time,” stated Nalli.

Even though the Portage Campus no longer has an ICU and med surge, the facilities boast an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, Lab, surgical capabilities, and Inpatient Rehab. There are also physician offices at the campus location. Porter is continuing to improve its Portage locale; recently they invested $1.5 million to renovate and bring in new equipment to the campus’s operating rooms. Just recently, upgrades to the electrical and HVAC systems were completed, which will allow the hospital to expand in the future. “It’s all part of a commitment we made in how we can do our part in helping the economy,” Nalli said.

Nalli-Portage-Chamber-2Porter sees patients not just from Indiana, but across the Midwest including Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado, and Ohio. Building bridges with patients is the main focus in encouraging healthier lifestyles and Porter looks to better those bridges with the new hospital, “one of the largest economical development projects since the steel mills.” The hospital is on track for a move in date in the beginning of November.

As one of the largest employers in the region, “it’s our job to do more in the community.” Porter employs 1,951 workers and actively invests back in their employees and the community, through tuition reimbursement, sponsorships of community organizations, volunteer hours, and community screenings. The health system also invests in community education programs at Bonner Senior Center, Miller’s Senior Living, and the Portage Public Library, as well as offer community programs such as Healthy Woman and Senior Circle, to promote wellness and healthy living. “This is your hospital. We want you live a longer, healthier life.”
