National Night Out Against Crime

city_of_portageMayor Olga G. Velazquez and Police Chief Mark Becker invite Portage area residents to join them at Founders’ Square Park from 5:30-6:30pm on Thursday, August 4, 2011 as the City of Portage participates in the “28th Annual National Night Out”. There will be an opportunity to speak with local public safety officials, obtain safety awareness information and view the newest police vehicle. Refreshments will be provided.

During the evening hours, Mayor Velazquez encourages area residents to:

  • Turn on porch and patio lights
  • Go outside and visit with neighbors
  • Meet new neighbors and reacquaint with existing ones
  • Offer refreshments or consider a neighborhood cookout
  • Remember to lock doors and windows when not at home

The National Night Out provides a unique opportunity for the City of Portage to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting cooperative police-community partnerships and neighborhood safety awareness.
