Today was my 3rd day in Washington and, as most of you can imagine, I am loving it!
First let’s start out with Sunday night. Next time I definitely will not go to bed at 11:30 and expect to get up easily at 5 in the morning. I made it to the airport after breakfast with my wonderful family! Though I believe it is wrong to charge $25 for your first bag, what are people not suppose to bring luggage? I am not disappointed that I was not randomly selected to go through the full body scanner! Just regular screening for me…luckily!
Arriving in Washington was easy, got my luggage and headed to meet Kathy at pickup. We had a nice day, and a nice dinner at Cheesecake Factory. She was such a nice person and I am so thankful that I could stay with her and her fiancé for the night.
Arriving to the page hall was not an easy task, it took us forever to find the hall and there were a lot of people trying to get in, but I made it and got to my room. There are four people in a room (I am the only Democratic Page). My roommates are from LA, Oregon, and California. As far as I know, I am the only person from Indiana.
Luckily for me, the house is only in session for 16 days that I am here so I won’t be working the whole time. They have plenty planned for the time that we aren’t working, like tours and trips, but one disappointment, we do not get to meet the President, unless he comes to the hill for a meeting or speech and we happen to meet him. I did get to see Marine One fly over though!
I’ll be sending emails at least once a week, but Facebook and Twitter are not allowed during the time I am here, which does not matter, because there is no WiFi in the dorm, only their computers! So much for bringing my laptop to watch Netflix Instant Streaming. And you may be thinking, you have a TV, you’ll be fine, but NO TV EITHER!!!
If anyone is going to be in Washington between now and August 7th, let me know and we can get permission to go out to lunch or dinner. We must get parental permission first so the dorm security (United States Capitol Police) will let you take me somewhere.
